About GST Calculator

GST (Goods and Services Tax) replaced multiple indirect taxes in India from 1 July 2017 and is collected at four main slabs: 5%, 12%, 18% and 28%. Knowing how to add GST to a base price — or back-calculate the base price from a GST-inclusive total — is critical for shopkeepers, freelancers, consultants and small e-commerce sellers.

Our GST Calculator does both: enter an amount, pick a slab, and the tool instantly shows the GST amount and the net or gross value. For intra-state sales, GST is split equally between CGST (Central GST) and SGST (State GST). For inter-state sales, the same total is collected as a single IGST. We show all three breakdowns so you can fill any tax invoice without a second thought.

Frequently asked questions

How is GST calculated in India?

GST = (Base price × GST rate) ÷ 100. To extract GST from a GST-inclusive amount, GST = Total − (Total × 100 ÷ (100 + rate)).

What is the difference between CGST, SGST and IGST?

For sales inside the same state, total GST is split equally between CGST and SGST. For sales across states, the same percentage is charged as a single IGST that goes to the central government and is later settled with states.

Which GST rate applies to my product?

Most digital services, restaurants, and standard goods use 18%. Essentials use 5%, processed foods and electronics often use 12% or 18%, and luxury items use 28%. Always verify with your CA or the CBIC rate finder.

Is this GST calculator free?
